President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Guard Members to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease issuing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
