This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
